CPS 1980 (current_population_survey_1980/)¶
84,380 individual records from the 1980 Current Population Survey (intercensal household survey). Black and Coloured samples, 44 variables. Variable names are coded (q2, q3, etc.) — see documentation PDF for codebook.
Public Sector Employment (public_sector_employment/)¶
44 CSVs from two sources:
- Standish (1987): 43 files covering government employment 1920-1980, by sector (Central, Provincial, SOEs) and race
- Brand/Carnegie (1984): 1 file (699 rows) on health, welfare, education expenditure by racial group
CPI (cpi/)¶
Unified CPI series, 1960-1999. Single file combining multiple deflator sources.
SAIRR Extracts (sairr_extracts/)¶
41 CSVs from South African Institute of Race Relations annual surveys (1964+). OCR extraction — quality varies significantly. Best used as supplementary reference, not primary data.

Union membership data, federation affiliations (FOSATU, COSATU, CUSA), registration statistics. Excel format.
